Aalto University Foundation

 

Established in 2010, the Aalto University is a new university with 300 years of experience. The Aalto University was created from the merger of three Finnish universities: The Helsinki School of Economics, Helsinki University of Technology and The University of Art and Design Helsinki. The university currently is composed of six schools, which are all leading and renowned institutions in their respective fields and in their own right. The combination of six schools opens up new possibilities for strong multi-disciplinary education and research.

Department of Automation and System Technology of the School of Electrical Engineering, Aalto University has established a national and international reputation in a wide field of automation, control and system technology. The department performs an active research program in the areas of micro- and nanorobotics, process control, wireless communication systems, power electronics and electric machines. The department has a staff of around 100 people.

 

Role of AALTO in the FAB2ASM project

AALTO will be in charge of coordinating the project. The main tasks of AALTO are the development of capillary self-alignment mechanism (WP2), integration of the capillary self-alignment into industrial demonstration (WP5). AALTO will be leading WP5 and WP8.

 

Key person

Quan Zhou is an adjunct professor and the leader of Micro- and Nanorobotics Research Team at the Department of Automation and System Technology, School of Electrical Engineering, Aalto University, Finland.
He was also a Professor at School of Mechatronics, Northwest Polytechnical University (NWPU), Xi’An, China. He received the Dr. Tech. degree in Automation Technology from Tampere University of Technology, Finland. During the past decade, he has worked in supervision and administrative roles in over ten academic, industrial and European Union projects. He has authored more than fifty peer reviewed scientific publications. Dr. Zhou is also an Associate Editor of the Journal of Micro-Nano Mechatronics.
